Beach Bag Stitch-Along

Q: What is it a KAL/CAL?

A: A Knit-Along (KAL) or Crochet-Along (CAL) is simply people knitting or crocheting a project together! In this case, we’re doing 2 beach bags a week (1 knit, 1 crochet) for 3 weeks! You can share your experiences, meet new friends, learn new skills, enter our photo contest and have an amazing beach bag(s) at the end!

Q: How does it work?

A: Starting on Tuesday June 29, we’ll be posting two new videos on our blog ever Monday for three weeks. Each beach bag will have a video.

Q: When does it start and how long does it last?
A: Every Monday for three consecutive  weeks (June 29, July 6, July 13)!

Q: What are the Beach Bags?
A:
Knit:
Week 1: Market Bag
Week 2: Poolside Tote
Week 3: Sea Breeze Bag
Crochet
Week 1: Rich Textures Tote
Week 2: Garden Bag
Week 3: 4th of July Bag

Q: Do I need any special skills to participate?

A: From beginners to stitching superstars, anyone who loves to knit or crochet is welcome to participate! Don’t worry if you’re not experienced – we’ll be releasing videos to help you!

Q: Is there a place for me to share photos of my progress?

A: Absolutely! We love to see what you’re making, and sharing photos of your projects and seeing other people’s photos is one of the most fun parts of a KAL/CAL! Share your progress photos with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Make sure tag your photos with #yarnspirations so that we can find them!

Q: Do I have to use the yarn specified in the pattern?

A: You can use any yarn you’d like as long as it’s the right gauge, but we recommend using the yarns that the patterns are designed in for best results.

Q: My postal code isn’t being accepted!

A: No worries! If you’re outside of the US or Canada, just type in 00000 and you’ll be good to go!

Q: Can I use different colors than the ones in the pattern?
A: Of course! You’re welcome to get creative and choose your own colors.

Q: How to I enter the photo contest?

A: The details of about the photo contest can be found here.

Q: Where can I get help if I have questions or need help?

A: We’re always here to help! If you have any questions, chat with us on the Yarnspirations Facebook page or send us an email at inquire@yarnspirations.com.

  1. I’m finished knitting the sea breeze bag and it says to use grommets, but what size do you recommend?

  2. Lorna A Single July 5, 2015 at 1:36 pm

I am knitting this bag and I am confused. I am ready to start handles and I am on the end of my second 2 oz ball. Yet the supplies required said to order 6 balls of cotton. I am using the correct sized needles. Why was so much cotton needed? Also could you tell me approximately how many repeats of rows 2 thru 5 are required? Thanks!

  3. I have just completed row 13. I have a section where there is only 3 cables instead of six. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

  4. Hi….can I ask when where can I find the video tutorial, I can read a pattern but your video tutorials are the best Mikey, thank you so much for all you do xx

  5. I just ordered 2 kit a and. Know I am a bit late to join but where and for how long will the videos be kept online, for us late comers. :)

  6. Thanks! My WIP pile was getting to be more HOTH, now I know what I’ll be doing in July!

  7. Thanks so much for this lovely pattern. I have a question – in the 5th rnd itt says to bobble cluster in the next ch2 space. There isn’t a ch2 in round 4 so does that mean the ch2 space in round 3. Doesn’t specify.
    Thanks

I think you may be missing a bobble in your Bobble Cluster. You might need to frog back to round 4.
Make a bobble, chain two, and make another bobble, all in the same stitch. If you printed out the charts, you can see the two puffs that make up the Bobble Cluster.

I ‘m very excited about this. But I would need a video tutorial to crochet the rich texture tote. I can not read written patterns to safe my life. Will there be one available? Is it just for people who sign up? We just moved cross country and I might not have the time to sign up for the stitch along. But I would like to crochet it. Is there a link already available if there is a tutorial :) Thank you and keep up our amazing work!!!

  9. Hey Mikey, the cotton yarn I have is really rough on my hands. Can I use worsted yarn and still be eligible? Thanks

  10. Hey Mikie,
I dont see the video for this bag? Do you have the link for it?

    Thanks, Lisa

    • The stitch-alongs begin next week and each week’s videos will be released… One each of the knit and crochet version per week, for 3 weeks.

  11. Hi, I would like to crochet two and knit one. Is it possible to be able to split it up this way?
    Thank you!

  12. How long will the videos be available on the blog? I will be on vacation from the middle of bag 2 week to the middle of bag 3 week. Will I be able to access the videos when I get back or is each video only available for 1 week?

  13. I am very interested in taking part in this Stitch Along but I am on a fixed income. I do not see the price of doing this project. Can you please give me an idea of what the total cost might be?

    Thank you very much,
    Sandy Thom

    • You can also substitute your yarns for something you may have in your stash. If ordering online, the prices of the yarn are in each of the patterns.

  14. thank you for the patterns, now i can gather my yarn. I have a stash of Sugar n’ cream that have been just waiting for the right moment. All i’m waiting for is the word GO. HaHa

  15. I happen to be on vacation during most of this, will the video’s still be on your site when I get back and able to begin?

  16. Why is Quebec excluded from the challenge?

    • Well, I guess that Yarnspirations and Crochet Crowd have no answer to my question. That says it all… It’s sad. It’s just a simple question.

  17. This post concerning how to embed a YouTube video code is genuinely valuable in favor of new internet access people. Pleasant work, keep it up.
    Legendario.

  18. I can’t wait to get started! Sounds like fun!! I’m finishing up a blanket for my niece who got married last summer. I’d love to post it when it’s done!

  19. Sharon Walker-Martin June 14, 2015 at 4:55 pm

    Very excited!

  20. Why are there only 8 Sugar n Cream yarns to choose from? How can I get the ones used in the pictures?

  21. i am on a very fixed income so I will not be able to order the kit so can I use your videos and use yarn I already have . I have always wanted to try one of these stitch-alongs but didn’t realize I wouldn’t be able to purchase. Thanks love your videos and work

    • Remember, you don’t have to purchase the yarn on our website to participate. You can pull from your stash or if you can find an equivalent yarn that you would like to use. We do appreciate that everyone is on a budget and we are sensitive to that as well.

  22. Rochelle Manel June 12, 2015 at 9:38 am

this is my first knit along and need to know how to sign up and get the pattern…. Thank you Rochelle

  23. Are these supposed to be finished in one weeks time or what is the time frame for completion?

    • There is a period after each week. That information has been provided. All bags are being given out and then all of them are due by a certain date at the end.

  24. I don’t have time to participate in the KAL, but would like to have the patterns. How can I get the patterns without signing up for the KAL?

Thanks for all the great work you do!

    Joan

    • All the patterns are currently available. You can grab them at anytime. You don’t have to sign up to download them as they are readily and available for free on our website.

  25. I already receive emails from you and love your patterns. I’ve got some of your cotton dish cloth yarn now but how many skeins of one color do I need to make each project? I’m particularly interested in the market bag. Definitely looking forward to the upcoming KAL!

  26. I am seeing that the patterns are already out there to get when you click on them. Why wait to get started?

  27. Kelly Erickson June 11, 2015 at 2:11 pm

They’re all so wonderful! I may have to make all six!

  28. I am afraid I am not a mindreader. I would love to sign up for the KAL but the form does not let me know what information to put in what box on the signup form.

  29. Will I receive a written pattern or just the video?

  30. How fun! I think I am going to do the poolside bag. I haven’t knit in 20yrs.
( I crochet often) looking forward to this.

  31. How much does it cost? It can’t be free, right?

  32. I am retiring June 30 – this will be soooo much fun – excellent way to get my retirement plans/hobby started – thanks for the opportunity!

  33. It says patterns are free but then u have to order the kits. So I’m confused

    • The kit purchases are optional. The pattern is free but if you have the yarn already or have access to get the yarn where you live, you are welcome to do so. :D Michael

  34. So excited! Just FYI, when you click on Knit Me for the market bag, it brings up the crochet pattern. If you click on the picture, it brings up the correct knit one.

  35. Rosalie Wright June 10, 2015 at 9:58 pm

Two of my favorite people doing a knit along and crochet along ….oh what a wonderful summer this will be!

  36. I can’t download the Rich Textures Tote. The other crochet bags came up fine.

    • Where did you find the patterns? I can’t find a link to get started with, except for the amount and yarns.
Also… The yarns says it needs 5 skeins of yarn. Usually one skein is enough. Just how big IS this bag and how many yard the skeins? Know I am putting a lot on you to answer, but it seems you have at least a head start on me. Thanks!

      • Yarnspirations July 7, 2015 at 4:29 pm

        Hi,

The patterns can be found under the question “Q: What are the Beach Bags? ” by clicking on the links! :)

  37. I’m a beginner, which bag would be the easiest for me to do?
